{"id":7489,"date":"2022-12-06T19:10:09","date_gmt":"2022-12-06T19:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southshieldslocalhistorygroup.co.uk\/?page_id=7489"},"modified":"2022-12-23T16:44:21","modified_gmt":"2022-12-23T16:44:21","slug":"margaret-barbour","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/southshieldslocalhistorygroup.co.uk\/index.php\/people\/local-success-stories\/margaret-barbour\/","title":{"rendered":"Barbour, Margaret"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Early Life<br><br><\/strong>Margaret Davies was born in February 1940, she married John Malcolm Barbour in 1964.&nbsp; His ancestor John Barbour established the family business of J Barbour &amp; Sons in 1894.&nbsp; Her husband John Malcolm died in 1968 and Margaret took over as Chair of the company in 1972, a position she has held ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Business<br><br><\/strong>Barbour\u2019s traditionally made oil cottoned suits for seamen, motorcyclists and submariners.\u00a0 Margaret is credited with reinventing the firm to have a wider appeal.\u00a0 From the 1980s waxed cotton jackets became very fashionable with the hunting and shooting fraternity and upper-class people generally.\u00a0 She then exported the brand to over 40 different countries making Barbour\u2019s and internationally recognised company.
