Cowen despatched the painting to Italy in the safe keeping of Captain de Rohan, one of Garibaldi&#8217;s oldest and most trusted followers.&nbsp; Captain de Rohan sent the following account of the reception of the painting by Garibaldi:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"748\" height=\"595\" src=\"https:\/\/southshieldslocalhistorygroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Did-You-Know-Garibaldi-John-Hutinson-Letter2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8588\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southshieldslocalhistorygroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Did-You-Know-Garibaldi-John-Hutinson-Letter2.jpg 748w, https:\/\/southshieldslocalhistorygroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Did-You-Know-Garibaldi-John-Hutinson-Letter2-300x239.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Newcastle Daily Chronicle&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;Friday 19 April 1861<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>John Hutchinson treasured Garibaldi\u2019s neckerchief and wore it on special occasions such as in 1867 when he at a famous demonstration that was held on the Town Moor when \u201cbetween forty and fifty thousand\u201d demonstrated in favour of the second Great Reform Act;
